a rush of blood to the head

So Mat and I did the Hydrocut last night, and I realized again how much I suck at short bursts of activity. All that grinding up short steep rises, me huffing like a locomotive, watching Matty's yellow shirt bobbing in the distance ahead as he carved through it like butter. He took me through Adam's Run though, which was terrific fun, with swoopy slopes and berms and tight twisties on a downhill grade. I liked that! It reminded me again how much I'm missing the downhill stuff. Nothing suits me better than taking a chair lift up, and then letting gravity bring me screaming down the mountain. I made sure to savour all those trips up the mountain in Moab, taking in the red rocks, the sunshine, the peace and the warm sun on my soul, bike swinging contented beside me.

But since the name of the next race is Sea2Summit, I think the scenario's going to be up up up, and my little legs pumping furiously. But- some awesome news! Mat will be joining the adventure!! Yay!! We haven't spent much time together since my rock-climbing stopped, so I'm thrilled to get to do this with him! Somehow, even when my muscles are randomly jack-hammering, every breath is a gasp, and my face is rudolf red, he's able to motivate and cheer me way past my usual limits. I can already hear him giving me grief, half way up Mont. Ste. Marie, "C'mon, Darnell- this is a race, not a day at the ice-cream parlour!" (huff, huff, huff goes Von)

And if you want the kind of machinery that can make you into an uber-fit, cocky bastard superstar, he's selling his roadbike:
