city of snow

One great thing about all the snow that fell (much more since my last post!), is that Vancouverites are too scared to drive. I drove in late to work yesterday, on very quiet roads, expecting the parkade on our roof to be full. But apparently few wanted to risk the ramp up and down from the building. It was a ghost town up there. By no stretch did I need my 4WD and winter tires, but with them, there was nary a slide as I toodled around the downtown, and up and down the building ramps.

Dallas is so excited to see the snow again! She was cavorting around last night like a puppy, sticking her nose into the snow, and snuffling around like there might be food down there, racing back and forth across the school yard. Some other dog owners were there, and on the topic snow remarked, "we get this kind of snow every 10 years on the 6's." Meaning the last time they had this much snow was 1996. Cool, I thought. I imagine the ski hills are all open and doing brisk business already.

In preparation for fun, I dug out all my winter gear last night, including my snow-shoes and cross-country skiis. When we went out, I decided to bundle up like it was 20 below, rather than the -2 or so it really was. Just because I could.
