Pimp my GORP

Let's Review

- a lot of rain falls, causing muddy water in the reservoirs- Vancouver freaks out and issues a boil water advisory.

- 8 inches of snow falls over 5 days- all public transportation systems give up due to weather-stressed systems. People are afraid to drive to work.

Vancouver is a delicate city.

For all that, I've been plotting destinations and festivities for the holidays, albeit mainly outside city limits. As I do, the vastness of space, mountains and still untasted wilderness fills my notebooks.

Today, we went snow-shoeing, and Dallas was welcome. So Susan, Mary, Dallas and myself headed up Mt. Seymour, and spent some hours tromping around, up and down winding trails, marveling at the snowfall up there, the blue sky intermittent above, and the crystalline snow-forms making the boughs weighty; sometimes unleashing a spray of ice-chips and snow near us. We were in the backcountry, and on departing noticed the avalanche indicator was 'considerable.' Just the thing to irritate my mother with.

Dallas also has a new irritating habit. She ignores my commands to get out of the way of oncoming trail traffic. Instead, she stands immobile, mute and uncomprehending until people move around her. Ha ha, I can hear her thinking- you're the ones with snow-shoes, not me! I shot a lot of apologetic looks at fellow snow-shoers today. *sigh* Don't get smart on me now, Dallas!

It was a beautiful day up there.
