rainy days

These summer weekends! The only thing to do, after proposing the interesting and unique option of going mountain-biking (*gasp*) and then watching the heavens open up, is to just go biking anyway. We were in Peterborough this weekend, and as the rain came down, we loaded up the e with bikes and dog, and found some trails in Jackson Park. The rain came down and we went out anyway. Dallas enjoyed it, of course- she got to be completely filthy, running ahead, then apace, and eventually behind us, sliding down muddy embankments for refreshment in the river, and rolling in whatever had died for miles around. And Linda enjoyed herself- I was a little worried that the mud, rain, and then Dallas cutting her off, causing her to end-over onto the trail, coming up with bloody hands, little pebbles firmly embedded, would dissuade her. But no. What a sport.

Coming home was less fun. Once we were off the bikes, it wasn't as fun to be in the pounding rain, taking off shoes and helmets and bags, and stowing bikes and dog away again, while the windows steamed up with our sweat and smells. Then once back, I should have known (but nevertheless had to be informed) that Dallas would have to be bathed before she was coming in. *sigh* Resistance is comically futile. Dallas was tied to a clothes line out back, and I was only allowed inside long enough to find suitable shampoo. Then Dallas and I stood outside in the rain, miserable, and off came all the grime and dirt and dead stuff. On the upside, veggie burgers were on the barbeque the whole time, and when we came in, I was treated to a nice hot lunch and hot shower. Dallas got to lie on her mat, and she got a yummy (pseudo) bacon and cheese dog-treat that we later dedeuced was what gave her the wicked gas. whewf.

Seeing it was raining anyway, it didn't seem the worst idea in the world to shop. I still haven't found the Saloman race shoes I want, and there's this cool bike shop in the downtown. We spent longer in there than Linda would have liked (what? there are other stores besides bike shops??), but we did come home with an indoor trainer, of the fluid variety. We've yet to hook it up at home, but I'm excited. Then, to my horror, I found myself in the ladies underwear section at Sears, and that was much less fun, especially when I discovered we were shopping for me!! ack. I could say more on this topic, but I would just appear ungrateful and grumpy.

And now! A whole fresh new work week to look forward to!! Could life be better! Ooh, what wonders the week might unfold. Hardware acquisition issues, delayed legal response to our absolutely urgent inquiries, new techno- wiz-words to describe nefarious and mystical problems in the software (last week's nerd-word: idempotency...), and the inevitable manager coming to me with news of my project's immanent demise- what else could make me speed so fast to get here each day? Or was the the edict about core-business hours I'm thinking of?
