24 & sunny @ bromont

We're heading to frenchland this weekend... This is a significant milestone in my life. I can remember the road-trip my brother and I took out East to Newfoundland a number of years ago. The goal was to get all the way through Quebec without stopping. Our bladders betrayed us, and we ended up having to stop. We found a gas station, and thinking we'd have to speak no French if we used our Interac at the pump, but no... didn't work that way.

It's a $220 round trip on West-Jet, and I'm using a couple of precious vacation days to help fund the event. We're staying with a friend of Linda's, who's reportedly got a fabulous apartment in a superb area of the city, so we will be able to sample all it has to offer. On the downside- no Dallas, no Element, and thus- no mountain-bike. I have to figure out how to get my fill between now and Friday. Making it worse? Mt. Bromont's NINE INSANE WORLDCUP DOWNHILL slopes are so close by, I'll be haunted by the sounds of squealing disc brakes as lucky riders manoever down the slopes.

Making it EVEN WORSE? I picked up the annual photo edition of Bike Magazine today. Now I can read the mag while not living the lifestyle. On the other hand... I picked up OnOurBacks 20th anniversary edition, which will come in handy wherever I am.

We went for two bike rides yesterday- one to Albion Hills (beautiful and serene), near Caledon, and the second was a section of my old stand-by, the James St. Trail. The latter allowed us to bring Dallas, who despite her 9 blonde furry years was able to keep up with a moderate paced ride all over hill and dale. And into stagnant water. She stinks today, but she's happy! I can relate to that... Anyway, this is good, 'cause she's destined for my brother's townhouse in London as of Wednesday. My parents will fill her days with 'the retirement amble' instead of hours of breathless running and jumping into bogs fun.

I got a couple of pics from the adventure race- there was a professional photog snapping shots, and offering us super-expensive hard-copies. There's one more coming, with the three of us on bikes, riding towards the camera. I'll post it when I have it-

Tonight... my 10 month anniversary. . .
