nasty parlour tricks

Last night, for a romantic date night, we headed over to watch some amateur boxing at the RiverRock Casino in Richmond- about 20 minutes SouthEast of us. By chance, when I was shopping for weight-lifting books in the morning, I'd seen an advert for BC Golden Gloves, and knew immediately, I (and therefore we) had to see it.

For all this time doing boxing training, I'd never been to a live fight- (unless you count my endless bouts as a kid). There were women amateurs too, although only a couple pairs- Kate took pics, and even got a bit of footage:

So that was a lot of fun- There was a French-Canadian woman behind us screaming with a shrill voice something sounding like, "C'mon Danni- allay a poo!!" until my ears were ringing, and the crowd was muttering dangerously at her and she got the message. There were rows of teetering, drunken men in the aisles, hoots and hollars mounting to another kind of keening, infantile cry in later rounds when the "ring girls" pranced through the ring (bodyguards very apparent on entry and exit), and some really fine boxing. For the heavy-weight match, with US vs. Canada, both national anthems were sung, and the crowd positively teetered with their glowing hearts. We left early to avoid those same people on the drive home, but still had to step around vomit on the sidewalk.

Nice...

Something I'm sure I haven't written about- Dallas being off her dog food for the last month or so, increasing lethargy, and just not seeming herself. Then I heard about this huge recall of dog food, and was directed to this CNN link, with the names of all the recalled food.

Dallas has been on each of Iams, Eukanuba and Nutro dog food over her years, with each being touted to me as great dogfood for a while, and then being advised that its quality had slipped, and I'd move Dallas to another brand. So- even though the recall only affects "wet" food, and she's on dry, I figured, why support a company that's careless with both its quality over time, and now also its safety?

As of today, she's on Innova, and lo and behold- for the first time in ages, when I put her food down, she ate it immediately, and wanted more. huh! I thought she was just getting older and less interested, but she's still interested. Stay tuned for more good news soon, on the dog-health front (I hope!)

Lastly, yes I've purchased some weigh-lifting/ muscle books. I've been flailing around for over a year without a trainer, trying to remember what Scott said, and trying to be consistent, but I knew I was really just treading water. I've bought several strength training books lately, to help me learn more about the fundamentals, and get me on a safe, progressive program. So far, I'm learning quite a lot, and happily remembering that Scott told me much of this before- it was just too much to be absorbed in a dozen or so sessions (refer back to original 'gym-twerp' posts).

----NEWSFLASH----

In a stunning display of doggy indigestion from her expensive new food, Dallas just executed a triple vomit on our walk-way. This was preceded by a huge whooshing poo at the beach, that was described here in more detail, but which has since been edited out for your protection.
