finding my inner squirrel

We watched Babel this weekend, knowing nothing about it, and it was really an excellent movie- totally unexpected. Four separate, but interlocking stories, each told with quiet dignity and poignency. Very nice. The vignette of the Mexican woman's tragic alienation is still with me. We also picked up Red Doors, which I thought would be the nice artsy film, and it was, but Babel outshone it.

We also went to Lynn Canyon, about a 20 minute drive, and had a nice little putter around. I wasn't expecting anything brutal like the Squamish trail, and really it was just a walk in a park. Super easy, and even boring as a hike, but there were beautiful waterfalls, mountain blue-green rushing water roiling underneath the creaky suspesion bridge we made Dallas cross twice. Everyone stopped to see the trusting, but terrified Golden creep her way across, head low to avoid seeing over the edges. Think happy thoughts, Dallas.

The green moss and lichen is taking over the city. There have been a few days of actual rain in the last week, and suddenly everything is either bursting into pink petals, or the greens are insisting on out greening each other. Lawns, gardens, the moss and ivy creeping up trees, fronds and pushing buds. In Vancouver, March is the cruellest month.

Last night, I had to be in the office anyway, and I slipped in a workout while there. It was my first in 2 weeks, and ... I may have overdone it just a little. I hope I can still box tomorrow. I'd feel worse, but Dallas is also staggering around this morning, so at least I have company.
