out of order

Another extremely busy week... I have taken on extra projects due to vacationing project managers around me. Naturally, two major projects are at critical junctures at the same time, so my free-time for blogging has been minimal lately. The good news- we're still holding on to our schedule, even if only by our fingernails!

But that's no excuse for no update! On the Adventure Racing front, there are 10 days left for training, planning, and general getting it together. This is not enough time! Charles, Robin and I took that Navigation 201 course at Dundas Valley last weekend, and it was really good. It was a 5 hour tromp through nettles and over hill and dale, while folling the dictating compass arrow to (close to) where I was supposed to end up. Although I feel like we have this orienteering business nailed, we're heading back for more this Sunday, and we're following that up with some 3-person canoe-paddling practice. Can you say e-x-h-a-u-s-t-i-o-n?

This will be the first time the three of us have spent together in the outdoors- ever! I can't believe we're going to do this... nervy bastards we are.
As for mountain-biking- I've done precious little this year. I hope to get out at least twice between now and Sunday, and then hopefully another good ride or two next week. Must put tune-up bike on my To-Do list, as well as getting my back tire replaced. For predictable reasons (braking for dear life while downhilling), that tread is worn almost bare. Then there's the still-not-attached remote lockout for my rear shock (don't laugh- it's a real feature...), and the usual clean-up and cable replacements. I'm pretty much set for this race, except for the minor detail that running is still out of question for me- we'll have to be content with fast-walking.

I came home last night, armed with dog food and wine. I was met by my beautiful Linda with a Meditteranean cold soup, and roasted portobello mushroom caps for dinner, and a gift of 8 French CDs, complete with audio CD, a whole bunch of games, and 4 CDs worth of computer-based learning. I have also learned the phrase, "Quand les poules auront des dents!" haha. Nothing like relevant phrases to help your French along... It must be love.
