baby i'm a sock machine

In a bid to kill myself, I've signed up at a second gym- this one is dedicated to boxing. What I've learned there in just two sessions is that much of what I had been doing was more of a boxer-cardio light workout, whereas this gym had a philosophy of training you to actually smash someone. Obviously, I'll be opting for smashing...

Ok, it's not that I want to smash anyone, but it does seem that if you're going to learn boxing, you should at least aim for the potential to smash well. If called on. Which I won't be. In all likelihood. Today I learned the six major smashy moves, and learned how hard it is to execute them with explosive power (our goal), and return to basic position without tipping over (our reality).

So that is fun... I am keeping up my core strength stuff at the other gym, and really noticing major improvements in what I can do. I now walk around the gym with confidence of purpose not entirely faked. I disdain the machines, not because I really know why, but because my trainer does. I have graduated from gym twerp to accomplished know-a-little newbie.

Last week Kate and I (a new regular feature in this blog) saw a brilliant play at the Tarragon theatre in Toronto called Humble Boy. Tagline: Theoretical physicists don't get out much" I give it 5 Smashes for super-duper-wonderful-and-hilarious. It was the best play I've seen in years, and I strongly urge any occasional play-goers to make this the one you see in 2006. It's only running another week or two, so bust a move!!

This week, famous and getting famouser local cartoon artist Seth is coming to town, opening Thursday at The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre. I'd call that a must-see too.

Oooh, and although I'm going to miss Controller.Controller in Guelph Feb 6th, I have learned they'll be at the Starlight in Waterloo Feb 8th. If you wanna catch that one, drop a line.
