Jen came up from Berkekley for a visit a couple of weeks ago, and we played pool, gabbed and generally were just really happy to be in each others' spaces at long last. I miss that girl. I did have to admit I had yet to figure out many of the more advanced features of my fabulous watch, which has shamed me into at least trying to dig up the manual again... it's on the thought-list.
Disco is a really cool dog, but man did I under-remember the pain of puppyhood. I'm up 3 times/night to take her outside, and each trip is usually preceded by futile commands to be QUIET, and endless whining before I cave in. I am sleep-deprived every freaking day.
Disco has been initiated in recent weeks to swimming endlessly behind canoes and kayaks as well as racing beside my mountain bike. Don't let these statements fool you into thinking I'm in good shape. I'm in interesting shape, but not good ones... My limits were all too obvious last week, and they were audibly exhibited by my huffing and wheezing on my (previously timed at) 2 hour loop of the James St. Trail. Well not any more... Granted it was hot, but my cardio is SUCKING. I've even experienced the shame of facing that steep rocky downhill bit and having a little feeling of nervousness before descending that I felt some shock at feeling. NERVOUSNESS?? Thoughts of lifelong injury? Ugh. Weakness. What would Kate think?? But Kate's not around (Kate!!!!), and the moment passed and down I went.
Nevertheless, this little moment of weakness did something to my internals, cuz I immediately went out and bought two mountain-bike mags, and have started harping at Andrew and Steve to go downhilling with me soon- no takers yet, but I'm already feeling better about things. Maybe if I fall down the stairs, I'll actually believe it was on purpose- just more evidence of derring do...
I did manage one spectacular bike crash lately, however it was in our hallway, and yes alcohol may have been a factor... I put a pretty decent gash in my right ankle, and slamming the other so hard it swelled up and went purple- I spent yesterday hobbling around the office in Linda's cute flip-flops, and having people either going pale at the sight of my gash, or giggling about how I really have to get my toenails painted if I'm going to wear such cutesy shoesies. *barf* "Yes, I had quite the bike-crash just last night...
Oh well. Consoling me is the fact that I've got beyond procrastinating on the podcast thing with the new version of iTunes. It was too easy to subscribe to a bunch of pod-casts via their nifty aggregating directory, so I can listen to something more interesting than Andy Barry in the morning now. I'm loving it, and the fact that if part of the broadcast sucks, it's just click, click, scroll to get to something better.
More soon... really.
