dirty fluffy bunnies
It feels odd to not be writing about Pride, but I have no tales to tell of boiling on the sidewalk while scads of bare-assed men dance merrily by on various floats. I did not walk topless down Church street, or shake my booty while darting between falling condoms/necklaces/watergun spray. I did not wait in line at the various over-heated party-all-night-establishments while paying too much for bad beer, I did not encourage a half dozen others to all declothe in the street and bow down to our fearless leader, and I did not make out with anybody's girlfriend but my own. See how i have grown.
I did head up to a muskoka cottage, and had the most brilliant time. The trip marked the first time Dallas was ever in a motor boat, and our first trip through the muskoka islands. We were at Linda's family island (what a concept!), and everybody was there... We swam, we romped and played, and we got in a couple little kayak trips. We formed a conga line on some rocks with Val and Scott (Linda's sister and her boyfriend) and polka'd and did the cha-cha. Linda s-l-o-w-l-y tipped over in her kayak. ha-ha- That's what you get for leaving the conga line.
I learned how to play quadruple solitaire, and played as long as it took for me to finally win a hand. Dallas played fetch the stick until her nails bled, and then all her paw-pads were bleeding, and she couldn't stand anymore. And then she brought the stick again and looked up beseechingly for someone to throw it. We hadn't even yet left, and we were already planning our return.
Chiro and Physio are suspended for a little bit, since the end of one set of sessions is here, and the next not yet booked. I want to use a week full of free weeknights to maximal effect, and get out biking a couple times. We got Linda a new Marin Rift-Zone bike for an incredible price, and she's now got dual suspension, front and back hydraulic disc brakes, and a very decent Shimano XT component set besides that. We actually have no plans for this long weekend, so we're thinking of doing as much biking on local trails as we can stand, and then maybe renting kayaks/canoes again.
And I am still looking for a watch with digital compass, clock, 3 alarm setting, altimeter and barometer with heartrate monitor for less than $600Cdn. What is this, rocket-science???
Tonight is an Adventure Race and Navigation Clinic @ Adventure Guide in Waterloo. I'm going with my team, who all apparently still believe we are going to be in the Enduro Race coming up in Collingwood on July 31st. EEEK. Need that watch if I'm going to be in shape!
Quiz me tomorrow, but apparently I'm going to learn to read and understand maps, map legends and scales. What do those squiggly lines on a map mean? What's a UTM? How do I identify latitude and longitude? What's magnetic declination? How do I hide from my teammates if I'm not in good enough shape to paddle the canoe? Stay tuned...
