because i can can can

Do you ever go through periods where all you think about is work? I feel like I've been living, breathing and sleeping it for so long now, the outside world is just a little less real to me. I must stop, I will stop, I can't stop.

The PMO team from Paris has been down for the last week and a half, and our fearless leader "planned" for us such wonders. The highlight was when we traded the $33 Grouse Mountain gondola for a $35 ride on the Big Bus, where a disjointed soundtrack skipped around, welcoming us aboard about 25 times, and playing awful dramatizations of Gassy Jack and Captain Vancouver. The soundtrack was supposed to be timed for what was nearby, but I think the driver may have just enjoyed a bus-load of people whipping their necks around, trying to spy landmarks that weren't really there. Overall, it was a brilliant, if unexpected, team-building exercise to sit through the entire tour. We were also tested by enduring a hockey game one night, but that's another story.

Kate and I have some vacations booked soon- We learned the hard way last year that every long-weekend campsite and ferry are booked for the entire summer by April 2nd. So for the May long weekend, we'll be at Montague Harbour Marine Park, on Galiano Island. It sounds brilliant, and we'll be bringing kayaks. It's been suggested we also bring Dallas, but Dallas in a kayak on the ocean is a concept my mind balks at. There have been just too many canoe "incidents," over the years, although last summer she sat perfectly still for once, making all my dire warnings and predictions sound like oh-so-much-crap.

This past weekend, we ventured to beautiful Squamish again, to try some bike trails from our guide-book. We ended up on S&M and Farther Side, two intermediate rides, and they felt very Halton Hills. Nice stuff. I noted that the trail Erin and Madelane took me on, the Powerhouse Plunge, was actually rated an expert ride, which made me feel better about eating a tree that day, but worse about so trustingly following their lead. hmmm.

This coming weekend, we have hopes of Seymour mountain, and some of the intermediate trails there. We're also finally going to join the North Shore riding club, and enjoy what seems to be loads of benefits, including shuttle trucks and guided runs. Bring it on!!

I have been putting off getting my eye-glasses fixed for some time now- I think since last summer, in fact. I have now crumpled my third pair, the back-up librarian glasses my mother chose, and I must finally act, since I can't actually see to drive at night. I must look the loon at work too, peering into the monitor. The problem is, repairs have to go to Oakley, and the dealer wanted to charge an extra $35 convenience fee. You cannot actually send them direct to Oakley, and this extra fee stopped me in my tracks. I now have 3 broken pairs, worth about $1500 total, sitting broken because I don't want to pay an extra $35. I sense gnashing teeth in my near future.
