Well GOODNESS it’s been a long time since I sat down to update the olde blogge. For the last month and some, I’ve been working at a local production house. I’m not sure how much of my career-changing scheme I’ve revealed in these pages before, (and I’m too lazy to check), but here’s a rough sketch:
Mid-Life Crisis Scheme #1
Precedent: Hate working for Mega-Corp, must leave before soul is extinguished.
Choices:
a)Take some time off,
b)Find a replacement Mega-Corp,
c)Return to grad school (film and/or writing) aka: second childhood
d) Downsize life/costs, teach myself video production, and see where it goes...
Decision: Convince Kate and Dallas that insane choice is best choice, and spend ludicrous amounts of savings on said plan. Hence Mabel the diesel pick-up truck, Ella the Airstream travel-trailer, video and computer supplies galore, and random travel plans all summer long. Add in one annual subscription to Lynda.com, used almost daily for a year.
Outcome: Gratifyingly close to my one-year anniversary of leaving Mega-Corp, I’m a producer/editor at a video studio in Waterloo.

For those of you wondering about Kate’s side of all this, I have to demur. That’s for Kate to tell. Ask her if you’re curious, and maybe she will restart blogging, or even write a guest post here. : )

So, these days I am pretty deliriously happy, and somewhat admittedly- pleased with myself. I’ve taken a few risks in my day, but this has been the biggest, and as spring turns its head toward summer, I find myself at peace. (a whole lot poorer, but at peace!).
We’ve moved our trailer, still within Green Acre Park, and now we’re in a lovely spot, with a raised flowerbed and a canopy of green leaves above us. I’m writing this post from the new “zero-gravity” chair Kate bought me last weekend, on our slightly ramshackle deck. It’s all unbearable cute.
I didn’t mean this to be a gushing, blissed-out happy post, but I can’t help it. We even have an 8 inch high white picket fence between the flowerbed wall and the driveway. It’s really to keep Dallas from crossing our “street” to see Frank and Lilly, who feed her treats, but we tell everyone it’s to keep Lilly out. : ) At night, our solar-paneled LED garden lights wink at us, and hopefully tonight- Linda and Peter are coming over for a bonfire and a celebration.
