This city will always bug you babe-

- A wind-storm- Stanley Park is decimated, and had to be closed.

- 2 more cms of snow- BC Place’s roof collapses.

- The latest plant I brought in, a Christmas fern for Kate, is technically still alive, but its prognosis is poor.

I blame Vancouver for everything.

The one good thing about Vancouver in the winter: the mountains. Cypress mountain is 20 minutes away, and has x-country, snowboarding and dh skiing. It’s reasonably priced (for everything but x-country - $17 for a pass!!), and even has trails lit for night-skiing.

I love cross-country skiing, and love getting out there into the woods. But $17 for a pass is outrageous, and frankly the trails were nothing to write home about. I’ve seen better at Sauble Beach! I’ve been asking around, and it’s not that there’s not snow in the mountains, but accessing those mountains is the trick. It’s not like you can cross the street and start skiing on ye olde golf course here. So ironically, it costs almost as much to x-country ski for an afternoon as it would to downhill… What a place for taking your money! The longer I’m here, the better Ontario looks. Perspective is everything, I guess.

December was largely a write-off in terms of exercise. The whey protein I was using caused increasing lethargy, but I didn’t make the connection right away (back to soy protein for me!). Then I got a cold, then I got sick. Then I got better, and then sick again. The whole Christmas stretch was without huge travel adventures, activity or even New Years celebrations. I wasn’t sick alone either- Kate succumbed, and we were both out cold by 8:30 New Years Eve. I am hoping that in February we can remake plans, and head North up the coast for a week of skiing and sight-seeing.

And one neat recent find- Pandora.com for custom internet radio. Nice…
