After a complete week down with a head and chest cold, I am ready to return to boxing ignomy at the gym tomorrow. I've been in London for the last few days, visiting the family and putting up the most complicated artificial tree ever conceived. I am quite proud of my $20 Scotch pine, put up with no difficulty, a great friend, and terrific fun. I'm less proud that I left the dishes to be washed on my return. Discovered that I really really need to terminate that mouse.
I applied to a job today!! That makes ... 2 in 2 months. My New Year's resolution will be to trend upward on that front. But it's a good job, and I used my LinkedIn network to smoozle an intro to a head dude.
Came home and took Dallas for a walk out James St. way. Met ol' Tom, skiing on the golf course, and we chatted about x-country ski venues like old friends. I imagined meeting him incidentally on some trail, sharing hot toddies in the sugar-shack while a wood-stove warmed up our cold feet. The moon stood stolidly in a perfect mauve sky, while the trees showed off their browns, and Dallas chased sticks and rolled in unidentifiable decay. Tomorrow morning, we go skiing.
Randomata:
- ok no, I haven't yet watered the plants. But I have watered the tree twice.
- there are 6 new entrants in the painted rock garden in my cluttered vestibule.
- had duct-taped the mail-slot to reduce heat loss. Discoved 2 days of mail rudely scattered on the vestibule floor.
- noticed the dark living room the other day- bought a new lamp for the living room, value village, $3.99. My dad had to rub his eyes and look twice when I showed him. I tried to drive away with my granny's old telephone table to put the lamp on, but apparently my family was already suspicious about what I was doing with the painted rocks. Like I own that sling-shot anymore.
- the tree is up, the house is in mode, and festivities are in the works
- Resolved to sign up for a Guelph ski club thing (courtesy of Tom's intelligence) where apparently there are Jesuits and groomed trails
- I'm allowed to report this now: Heather and Lena got married in a Winnepeg coffee shop in their favourite hoodies. Congrats, you crazy gals!! If you're reading this, that book is in the mail- ok no. but soon.
- And... thinking especially of you today, Jaye. Mucho heartfelt love.
