I've been in a winter-and-stress-induced funk for days. I've been moping around, not feeling myself, despite snow-shoeing in crappy conditions, and two long hikes lately. I realized that I don't have any cool goals set right now, and it's having a negative impact.
Then, to save the day- an unread mountain bike magazine from Christmas. Instant i-n-s-p-i-r-a-t-i-o-n! I immediately went shopping for dusty mountain bikes (no real trouble, they're both in the living room), and all the little pieces and do-dads needed for a ride. All I really had to do was blow up Linda's rear tire, which I did- twice. Both efforts resulted in shredded inner tubes. No ride.
Down but not out, I resorted to technicolour dreams of a new season of adventure racing. And there was ARC, the answer to my dreams! A winter adventure race, featuring mountain-biking, skiing and snow-shoeing!! Details are here and here.
I'm shopping for team-mates. You should own a bike, but both the skiis and snow-shoes can be rented. You should already be feeling the corners of your mouth twist up in sick appreciation of a gruelling and unpredictable race day, fueled by 2 months of Ohmigod-I'm-so-outta-shape panic training in unpredictable, crappy, cold, soggy weather. Teams of 3, $125 each.
I'm feeling it!!
